Check Valves
Pneumatic Check Valves allow pressurized gas media such as compressed air to flow in one direction and prevent reverse flow. They’re used in applications where backflow must be eliminated or redirected.
By design, a check valve’s orifice opens once upstream media pressure overcomes any downstream force present within the valve. The orifice closes once the upstream pressure becomes less than downstream, preventing backflow through the system.
Humphrey produces miniature pneumatic check valves in 10-32 UNF and 1/8 PIPE port sizes from their Miniature TAC Series product line.
Additionally, Humphrey produces two specialty check valves from their Classic Diaphragm Poppet Series. They include an additional air pilot port. With a pilot signal applied, the checking function is turned off, allowing forward and reverse flow. These check valve solutions are available in 1/8 and 1/4 PIPE ports.

TAC Miniature Check Valves
Humphrey’s miniature TAC Series “Total Air Control” system of valves, operators, auxiliary components and fittings are the perfect choice for simple air logic control. The lineup includes two miniature check valves in 10-32 UNF and 1/8 NPSF pipe ports for air pressure control applications.

Classic Diaphragm-Poppet Valve Series
Our Classic Diaphragm-Poppet Valve Series features a unique check valve solution that includes an additional air pilot port to override the check function and allowing full flow in either direction. The valve returns to its normal check function once the air pilot signal is removed. Our diaphragm-poppet check valves are available in 1/8 and 1/4 pipe sizes.
Benefits of Using a Check Valve
Benefits of using a check valve include:
- Backflow prevention: Media can flow freely once the upstream pressure pushes the diaphragm shuttle away from its valve seat. Once downstream pressure exceeds upstream pressure, the diaphragm seats preventing any backflow.
- Equipment protection: Preventing media from escaping the pneumatic system helps maintain equipment integrity. That reduces the risk of damage to components like pumps and compressors.
- Reduced system damage: Backflow can create pressure surges and may cause equipment failure. Check valves help to control pressure levels to prevent overloading that could negatively affect sensitive equipment.
- Fluid contamination control: Pneumatic backflow can lead to contamination in critical applications, which may create a malfunction, or potentially hazardous condition.
- Pneumatic and hydraulic system enhancement: Diaphragms create a leak-proof seal, preventing excess mechanical wear. The valve’s ability to respond to flow changes quickly helps maintain efficiency and decrease resistance.
