Reports to: Supply Chain Manager

General Description of Job:  The Buyer is responsible for the selection of the most appropriate suppliers of goods and services to the company based on price, quality, delivery and post-sale support. This responsibility extends to the day-to-day management and growth of the relationship with the suppliers various technical and commercial personnel. The buyer should be able to facilitate the extension of these relationships to other Humphrey technical and commercial personnel. Because we manufacture relatively complex assemblies the buyer should have very good mechanical aptitude and a relatively technical background. The successful candidate will work in a lean, fast-paced and rewarding work environment, where he/she will have the support and encouragement for developing a great career and achieving exceptional performance to help Humphrey Products Company reach its goals.

Responsibilities

  • Use available tools to identify and evaluate prospective suppliers for all different types of parts.
  • Prepare bid analysis and negotiate purchasing contracts.
  • Monitor suppliers’ performances and manage all aspects of supplier relationships and development.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams and work with Operations to understand material/service requirements, clarify specific deliverables and ensure compliance with company standards and processes.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Humphrey and the supplier in the event of any technical or commercial conflict (quality issues, delivery issues, pricing errors, etc.).
  • Coordinate supplier qualification process including commercial, technical and compliance (ISO9000) matters.
  • Ensure that appropriate corrective and preventative actions are implemented for any supplier related production interruptions.
  • Manage purchase from end to end such as creating RFQs, issuing and following-up with suppliers for RFQ responses, placing purchase orders and continued support.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required and a minimum 1-3 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (grammar, spelling, language usage, etc.).
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform independently.
  • High mechanical aptitude.

Humphrey Products is searching for a Design Engineer for the design and development of valves and valve systems to meet the needs of our customer in applications such as medical, instrumentation, distribution and food products. 

The individual must have the ability to act independently, confidently and with a sense of urgency, while handling a variety of engineering project challenges. This candidate will lead assigned new foundation product development projects and represent the Engineering Department, with external customers and internal production teams. 

There will be occasional travel to meet program objectives associated with suppliers, external customer and other items. If you are looking for a fast-paced setting, working with a team of dedicated peers, to tackle challenging engineer projects, this job may be a great fit for you.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Concept & Design New Products

    • Translate customer and or marketing requirements into product designs drawings and documents.

      • Submit designs and supporting documents for Patents when appropriate.

    • Assure new designs meets objectives for:

      • Product Performance & Durability

      • Manufacturability & Quality

      • Compliance to UL, REACH, RoHS, IPC, etc. if required

      • Safety

      • Cost and Timing

  • Develop New Products

    • Develop and supply prototypes.

    • Develop testing plans for validation and durability.

    • Conduct validation and durability testing.

    • Write final test reports to demonstrate product meets objectives for performance and durability etc. 

  • Hold Milestone Meeting

    • Conduct cross functional meetings for Design Reviews.

    • Product and Process concept and planning meetings.

  • Support Developing Project Budgets

    • Works with Project Manager and other team members to develop project budgets.

Skills and Qualifications

  • BSME or BSEE in Engineering required.

  • 3 years of experience in product design preferred.

  • Fluid Power components design experience a major plus.

  • Experience in process engineering a plus.

  • Solid Modeling CAD experience with Solid Edge, Solidworks, or equivalent.

  • CFD modeling experience a plus.

  • Experience with DFMEA, GD&T, DOE, and Statistics.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Excellent problem solving, organizational and prioritization skills.

  • Team focused with effective interpersonal and written communication skills.

  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task effectively.

Machinist

Set-up and Operation/Milling and Turning

Humphrey Products Company, a Kalamazoo-based manufacturer of pneumatic valves and control components used in industries such as medical, instrumentation, distribution, agriculture and transportation has openings in the Machining Department’s 2nd shift which consists of four 10-hour days (M-Th/3:30 pm to 1:30 am). 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have a High School Diploma or GED.

  • Must be able to operate multi-axis CNC equipment, read blueprints, use basic machining gages, and understand standard machining terminology and principles. 

  • Must be able to set up machines and work with a defined process to produce quality products.  

  • Must be able to demonstrate good judgement in decision making and problem solving.

  • Special consideration will be given to applicants for: extensive knowledge of cutting tool technology, speed and feed selection, process control techniques, GD&T and leadership experience. 

Humphrey Products specializes in short run production so candidates must also enjoy a variety of work. The pay rate will be set upon candidates experience level.

Humphrey Products is a Kalamazoo based manufacturer of pneumatic components and systems used in industry, medical, transportation and other applications. This position requires a BSME, BSEE or related BS with at least three years of experience in manufacturing engineering supporting, developing and launching assembly and test processes.

 Manufacturing Engineer responsibilities:

  • Develop processes, new tooling, fixtures and methods that involve Plant Continuous Improvement, Mechanical Engineers, Operations, Maintenance, Product Engineers and other areas as appropriate.
  • Provide safe operating conditions for operators and others involved.
  • Provide initial and ongoing cost estimates for engineering, capital, tooling and fixtures.
  • Assure safe and ergonomic operation for manufacturing operators.
  • Meet cost, capital and product performance goals with the process.
  • Assure minimum effective module sizes to allow volume linearity of capital where possible.
  • Develop Assembly and test line concepts that allow:
    • Flexible running multiple product families with exchangeable or common tooling.
    • Labor linearity across multiple staffing levels.
    • Operation balancing across stations that provide efficient capital utilization and high line output.
    • 5 Sigma Process capability Cpk of 1.67 for KPC’s and Cpk of 1.33 for other dimensions.
  • Processes with Cpk values less than these that are anticipated or discovered to be elevated to the Engineering Supervisor or VP of Engineering.
  • PFMEA’s when required used up front to assure processes with low RPN’s.
    • Focus on design solutions, then tooling solutions and last, quality checks to address risk areas.
    • Error proofing applied at operation and in layered approach with other processes where feasible.
    • Items that must be operator checked should use layered checking if possible.
  • PCP process control plans developed for KPC’s, KCC’s etc. with SPC as appropriate.
  • Problem response charts for key product and process failure modes developed.
  • Processes designed for maintainability, planned and preventative maintenance.
    • PM plans loaded in the system with input from maintenance and others as appropriate.
  • Project management elements:
    • Provide timing Gant charts, cost and resource estimates for tooling and fixtures.
    • Assure hours are logged to appropriate projects and money spent to appropriate sub-projects.
  • Process Workbooks and associated operator documents developed and released for key review meetings held for process concept/design and safety as appropriate.
  • ECO process packages raised, actions assigned, with follow up to assure close out.

Project Manager Job Elements

  • Assure customer requirements are complete, understood and translated into a product in conjunction with Sales and Lead Product Engineer.
  • Coordination with customers to assure program timing is understood, tracked and met.
  • Communications with customers logged and distributed through Contact Manager D-Base.
  • Assure products meet business objectives for performance, quality, cost and timingthrough coordination of cross functional project team.
  • Cost development and tracking for product or process programs.
    • Labor, prototypes, development, equipment, tooling, services and components, etc.
    • Tracking of all key changes to product, process, etc. relative to program cost impact.
  • Provide and maintain resource estimates for the program and raise issues as appropriate.
  • Project Tracking Workbooks initiated and maintained.
    • Master Gant Chart, action items, meeting minutes, engineering gate reviews, costs, etc.
    • Project Tracking Matrix by part number status (R,Y,G) and dates.
  • Project meetings held with internal functions and customers.
    •  Minutes made and action items tracked in project workbooks.
  • Engineering Change Requests (ECR) packages entered to release products and changes.
    • Assure functional areas complete their parts of the change package.
    • Assure customer driven changes include cost recovery for engineering, etc. and piece cost.
  • Prototype requirements orders placed for customer needs and program development.
    • Prioritize, track, remove roadblocks and make dates.
  • Resolve cross functional issues and trade-offs on cost, quality, timing and performance.
  • Assure key product development, processing and launch documents are completed.
    • Prints, DFMEA, Test Reports, PFD, PFMEA, PCP, PWB, Project Close Out Doc., etc.
  • Provide weekly updates on program status and issues to the VP of Engineering & Compliance and others.

Humphrey Products Company is a Kalamazoo-based manufacturer of pneumatic valves and control components used in industries such as medical, instrumentation, distribution, agriculture, and transportation has an opportunity for a Sales Engineer.

The Sales Engineer/Manager is responsible for identifying new sales opportunities with both Distribution and OEM customers. They ensure that the customers’ expectations are met during the sales process and documents sale activities via the Humphrey Products Contact Manager. They are the primary interface/liaison between the customer and the greater organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and develop new customers, applications, and markets with a concentration on the Life Science Markets within the region.

  • Provide support to existing customers and distributors within the region.

  • Evaluate existing distributors based on performance, the introduction of new potential opportunities, provide Humphrey Products support in prospective sales data gathering. Search for new distributors in underperforming territories.
    • Provide pre-sales application engineering services to accounts within the territory and coordinate additional services to be provided by the engineering team.
    • Execute sales and marketing strategies.

    • Perform demonstrations of product capabilities and features.
  • Perform fieldwork with distributors and direct OEM customers to present new products and potential ES remedies to customers. Provide direct contact with prospective customers for opportunities best handled on a direct basis.

    • Provide feedback and input to internal product management and development team.

    • Provide weekly activity reports to company management via the Contact Manager.

    • Create/Maintain New Business Opportunities via the contact manager.

    • Provide monthly forecast information via the Sales Representative Performance Reports.

Travel:

  • Up to 70% within region.

  • Kalamazoo office (4-6 times per year).

Basic Qualifications:

  • 4+ years professional engineering experience including 2+ years application / customer facing engineering experience with pneumatic or hydraulic electromechanical components and/or systems.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in related engineering field (Mechanical, Electrical or Controls). Additional Business/Entrepreneurship focus, or degree preferred.

  • Strong people skills, enjoys and excels at building and maintaining relationships.

  • Strong computer-based communication tools acumen.

  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills. Able to prepare and deliver technical presentations.

  • Enjoys working closely with small teams (work with engineers, project planners, production planners, to ensure we are not wasting time to bring products to fruition and deliver to customers).

  • Enjoys working from a home office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In order to have Engineer as part of title must have a 4-year engineering degree.

Humphrey Products is a Kalamazoo-based manufacturer of fluid control components targeting the medical device, instrumentation, automation, transportation, and material handling markets.  

We have a limited number of summer student positions in our assembly, quality and maintenance departments. Students must be available to work Monday through Thursday, 6:00 am to 4:00 pm for our assembly department. Starting pay is $12.00 an hour. Returning students earn $12.50 an hour.

Job Requirements:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Able to work 40 hours per week during the summer. (May-August)
  • Available to work a minimum of 10 weeks.
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or trade school.
  • Have transportation.
  • Must have manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
  • The ability to follow standard work procedures. 
  • Keen eye and attention to detail.
  • Ability in using tools and machines.
