Humphrey Products is a Kalamazoo based manufacturer of fluid control components targeting the medical device, instrumentation, automation, transportation, and material handling markets.  

We have several direct hire assembly positions available on our second shift, Monday through Thursday, 3:30 pm to 1:30 am. Pay range is $15.00 to $19.00 an hour, dependent on relative experience.

Job Requirements:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Relevant work experience as a manufacturing assembler.
  • Must have manual dexterity and fine motor skills.

Reports to:  Supply Chain Manager

General Description of Job:  The buyer is responsible for the selection of the most appropriate suppliers of goods and services to the company on the basis of price, quality, delivery and post-sale support. This responsibility extends to the day-to-day management and growth of the relationship with the suppliers’ various technical and commercial personnel.

Additionally, and as required, the buyer should be able to facilitate the extension of these relationships to other Humphrey technical and commercial personnel. Because we manufacture relatively complex assemblies the buyer should have very good mechanical aptitude and a relatively technical background.

The successful candidate will work in a lean, fast-paced and rewarding work environment, where he/she will have the support and encouragement for developing a great career and achieving exceptional performance to help HP Company reach its goals.


  1. Manage the relationship between Humphrey and the supplier’s technical personnel.
  2. Develop market knowledge and contacts for technology associated with Humphrey’s products.
  3. Use available tools to identify and evaluate prospective suppliers for all different types of parts.
  4. Prepare bid analysis and negotiate purchasing contracts.
  5. Monitor suppliers’ performances and manage all aspects of supplier relationships and development.
  6. Participate in cross-functional teams and works with Operations to understand material/service requirements, clarify specific deliverables, and ensure compliance with company standards and processes.
  7. Serve as the primary liaison between Humphrey and the supplier in the event of any technical or commercial conflict (quality issues, delivery issues, pricing errors, etc.)
  8. Coordinate supplier qualification process including commercial, technical and compliance (ISO9000) matters.
  9. Ensure that appropriate corrective and preventative actions are implemented for any supplier- related production interruptions.
  10. Manage purchase from end to end such as creating RFQs, issuing and following-up with suppliers for RFQ responses, placing purchase orders and continued support.
  11. Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Education

  1. Bachelor’s degree required and a minimum 1-3 years of purchasing or related experience in manufacturing environment required.
  2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills (grammar, spelling, language usage, etc.)
  3. Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  4. Strong leadership abilities to perform independently
  5. High mechanical aptitude and/or broad technical experience with engineered components---solenoids, molded rubber, plastic parts, and tight tolerance machined parts.
  6. Ability to work under tight deadlines and in occasionally stressful situations.
  7. High degree of planning and organization skills required
  8. Eagerness to learn

Key Measurables:

  1. Low number of production interruptions and/or product non-compliances (Material Complaint Notices) resulting from suppliers.
  2. Annual cost improvement targets set then met or exceeded.
  3. Ability to reduce overall supply chain management costs (through increased compliance, supplier consolidation, increased dock to stock activities, etc.)

Humphrey Products is searching for a Design Engineer for the design and development of valves and valve systems to meet the needs of our customer in applications such as medical, instrumentation, distribution and food products. 

The individual must have the ability to act independently, confidently and with a sense of urgency, while handling a variety of engineering project challenges. This candidate will lead assigned new foundation product development projects and represent the Engineering Department, with external customers and internal production teams. 

There will be occasional travel to meet program objectives associated with suppliers, external customer and other items. If you are looking for a fast-paced setting, working with a team of dedicated peers, to tackle challenging engineer projects, this job may be a great fit for you.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Concept & Design New Products
  • Translate customer and or marketing requirements into product designs drawings and documents.
    • Submit designs and supporting documents for Patents when appropriate.
  • Assure new designs meets objectives for:
    • Product Performance & Durability
    • Manufacturability & Quality
    • Compliance to UL, REACH, RoHS, IPC, etc. if required
    • Safety
    • Cost and Timing
  • Develop New Products
    • Develop and supply prototypes.
    • Develop testing plans for validation and durability.
    • Conduct validation and durability testing.
    • Write final test reports to demonstrate product meets objectives for performance and durability etc. 
  • Hold Milestone Meeting
    • Conduct cross functional meetings for Design Reviews.
    • Product and Process concept and planning meetings.
  • Support Developing Project Budgets
    • Works with Project Manager and other team members to develop project budgets.
  • Skills and Qualifications
    • BSME or BSEE in Engineering required.
    • 3 years of experience in product design preferred.
      • Fluid Power components design experience a major plus.
    • Experience in process engineering a plus.
    • Solid Modeling CAD experience with Solid Edge, Solidworks, or equivalent.
      • CFD modeling experience a plus.
    • Experience with DFMEA, GD&T, DOE, and Statistics.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Excellent problem solving, organizational and prioritization skills.
    • Team focused with effective interpersonal and written communication skills.
    • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task effectively.

Set-up and Operation/Milling and Turning

Humphrey Products Company, a Kalamazoo-based manufacturer of pneumatic valves and control components used in industries such as medical, instrumentation, distribution, agriculture and transportation has openings in the Machining Department’s 2nd shift which consists of four 10-hour days (M-Th/3:30 pm to 1:30 am). 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to operate multi-axis CNC equipment, read blueprints, use basic machining gages, and understand standard machining terminology and principles.
  • Must be able to set up machines and work with a defined process to produce quality products. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate good judgement in decision making and problem solving.

Special consideration will be given to applicants for: extensive knowledge of cutting tool technology, speed and feed selection, process control techniques, GD&T and leadership experience.

Humphrey Products, a Kalamazoo-based manufacturer of fluid-power controls and custom engineered solutions for various OEM markets including biomedical, material handling, transportation, industrial automation, semiconductors, alternative energy and green technology, has an opening for a Master Production Scheduler in the Supply Chain Management department. The Master Scheduler is responsible for developing a production schedule for purchased and manufactured parts, ensuring desired inventory levels and balance between existing and future customer requirements. Review requests of customer orders and provide promise dates to the Customer Service team.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Work with Customer Service, Sales and Production departments to provide schedules for special orders and negotiate priorities when resource scarcity dictates
  • Review inventory, daily schedule and optimize floor capacity,
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize daily workload based on capacity and customer demands
  • Monitor work order execution and report on schedule adherence to organization
  • Collaborate with internal resources such as purchasing, product development, engineering and sales for phase-in of new products and phase-out of discontinued products
  • Publish key deliverables and performance metrics
  • Calculate and execute optimum run sizes
  • Other duties may be assigned as directed by the Supply Chain Manager


  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred Integrated Supply Chain Management (ISM), or business degree. Preferred experience of five (5) years in planning department of high mix durable goods manufacturer
  • APICs – CPIM preferred
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills, problemsolving and leadership skills, lead and participate in cross functional teams, andthe ability to manage the requirements of others not directly supervised
  • ERP systems skills (KBM) preferred
  • Capabilities with basic to intermediate excel skills
  • MS Office proficiency required, (Excel, word)
  • Familiarity of Lotus Notes and Sequel

Humphrey Products Company is a Kalamazoo-based manufacturer of pneumatic control components used in industries such as medical, agriculture, transportation, distribution and microelectronics has several opportunities for Mechanical Engineer Product Design Interns.

We are seeking part-time interns to join our engineering group. We are seeking full-time students at junior level in an accredited engineering program. The intern will work a set schedule of approximately 15 - 20 hours per week coordinated with each semester’s classes and approximately 40 hours during summer and winter school breaks.      

Internship will provide students with hands-on engineering experience in a variety of engineering functions progressive with skills, software and laboratory work is included.

Candidates should have strong technical and problem-solving skills with an interest in industrial automation. CAD experience and SolidWorks or Solid Edge knowledge is desired. Entry-level employment opportunities are based on intern’s proven ability.

Humphrey Products is offering a limited number of summer student positions in certain departments.

To be eligible: Students must have graduated from high school, be 18-25 years of age, must be able to work 40 hours per week during the summer months (May – August), and be enrolled or in the process of being enrolled in an accredited college or trade school. (Students who have worked at Humphrey previous years must reapply each year.)

Summer employment will be terminated on a pre-arranged date. Students should plan to work a minimum of 10 weeks.
